Symposium 04

One speaks of quality of life and human qualities. The history of philosophy talks about primary and secondary qualities, the qualities of judgement and the qualitative jump. In economic terms quality and quality control are discussed. Quality has many facets on which we would like to focus.
Some qualities exist in nature independent of the transformation by human sensory organs; characteristics of the thing itself, such as temporal expansion and shape within space and time. Qualities such as color, tone, smell, hardness etc. are only experienced by contact and it is in this way that we experience them. They induce the appropriate feelings.

Invitation to the

2nd interdisciplinary symposium in Mohren
on the topic of

Quality
Qualities

from 4.9.2004 to 12.9.2004

For the second time the "symposium Mohren" will take place in an old farmhouse located in the Appenzell area of Switzerland.
The symposium will offer twelve participants the opportunity to explore the topics of quality – qualities and work beyond individual disciplines with the possibility of gaining new insights. Guest artists and other contributors will join us for speeches, discussions and performances during the week.
For us the goal of the symposium is to bridge the gap between the individual disciplines with a focus on art and science. We recognize the importance of specialized discussions on specific questions as well as global development. However, extreme specialization in the individual research fields often means that views as a whole are lost. Bringing disciplines together, not only ensures that nothing is lost, but they also acquire a place within social reality as a whole.

At the end of the week, the theoretical and practical work and communication process will be shown to the public in the form of a presentation. How this will be done, can be freely selected – a theoretical text or lecture is just as possible as an artistic work. Following the end of the symposium, a publication will be created which documents the discoveries highlighted during the week.

We hope we caught your interest and we look forward to your request for an application to the symposium.
